Chicago American Giants of 1917

In 1911 Rube Foster changed his team’s name to the American Giants, and dominated blackbaseball in the midwest for over a decade. Foster was successful in luring superstar shortstop John Henry Lloyd and star pitcher Cannonball Dick Redding away from New York, and signed secondbase star Bingo DeMoss from the Indianapolis ABCs. Joining a holdover nucleus of Pete Hill, Bruce Petway, Bill Francis and Frank Duncan, they formed what is considered by many to be Foster’s best ballclub ever.
